|
|
I am a newbie to linux - have an Eee PC 2G Surf, running on Xandros as an act of rebellion against Microsoft, and have just been given an HP Officejet K60. Although it appears to have installed the printer using the wizard function I cannot print a test page.
It says it has sent the page to the printer queue, and then says the job is complete but the printer just sits there and looks innocently at me. I have tried printing things out on the printer, like the system information, so I know that it does print but not files sent to it from the computer! (The fax and copier functions also work, haven't quite had the heart to try the scanner yet.)
I have read through various pages on this forum and tried the following:
- switching the USB port that the printer is connected to (three to choose from),
- tried using a different USB cable,
- tried deleting and re-installing the different types of drivers offered by the Eee PC (foomatic and hpijs and two types of gutenprint) with re-booting in between each deletion & installation.
- I cannot try using a parallel cable as there is no socket on the notebook for that.
- I even managed to get into the terminal screen to run synaptic to see if there were any updates that it hadn't automatically detected ... all to no avail.
So, I am just wondering if there is any kind soul out there who has sorted out this sort of problem and who wouldn't mind explaining the answer in words of one syllable?
I tend to see things like this as wonderful learning opportunities cunningly disguised as insurmountable obstacles ... |

| After scouring the web and reading through various help files, tried to install the printer as a network printer on my router - and the printer couldn't even see it! So am reluctantly coming to the conclusion that perhaps the printer don't work -- but will try a friend's Windows laptop with it to see if it is just that the poor thing is flummoxed by Linux. (And I think I am as well ...) |

You might also try the EeePC forums. People here are always happy to help if they can, but the EeePC forums has a lot more Eee-specific knowledge:

Thanks for the thought. I have tried to log on to the EeePC forums to see what issues others may have had with this and post a question but seem to get into a loop, which is a bit frustrating! I posted on here as xandros is the operating system installed on the EeePC I have. But will persist with trying to get into the other forums. |

Discovered the simple fact that I needed to use a parallel port / USB printer cable and not the USB / USB cable to connect the two items. Computer and printer are now talking to each other in an effective manner! Many thanks for all advice received. |
