|

Hi! I'm running Xandros on an ASUS eeePC 701SD, and I've just bought a Behringer UCA202 USB interface. It seemed to be recognized as soon as I plugged it into a USB port, but when I tried to record something in Audacity, the system froze and I had to power-off the machine.
Are there any tutorials, wiki articles, etc., about configuring USB audio devices under Xandros? I found an article about doing the same under Ubuntu, but the steps don't seem to apply to Xandros. It refers to a file named 'alsa-base' in /etc/modprobe.d, which doesn't exist on my system (the file, that is).
Thanks. |

I would search using debian etch vs xandros that may turn up more items and Xandros for the EEEs is based on etch. _________________

I found the problem, although it doesn't quite make sense to me. I had the UCA202 plugged into a USB hub, which seems to work fine for other devices (I have a mouse and a keyboard plugged into the hub). On a hunch (or out of desperation), I plugged the UCA202 into one of the built-in USB ports instead of the hub, and it worked fine, without any configuration required at all! I just had to select it as the recording device in Audacity, and had no problem.
Does that make sense to anybody? Why would the UCA202 work when plugged into a built-in port, but not a hub? |

Is the hub a powered hub? i.e. does it have a power adaptor connected to it? or is it powered entirely from the netbook?
If it is not powered, then there may not have been enough power to run the keyboard, mouse and the other device. Plugging it into the built-in ports, would then mean the device got the full 750mA instead of a lot less.
Just an idea! |

| It's a powered hub, although it might be faulty, I suppose. I haven't had it very long. I'll try unplugging the mouse and keyboard, and just plug in the audio interface, to see if it makes a difference. But I suspect the problem is something else, because the system didn't crash until I actually clicked the 'record' button in Audacity. |

Worth trying, of course the other thing that I only just thought of, is that some devices will not run from an external USB hub - they have to be plugged into the host system.
From what I remember, my wife's USB midi-convertor had to be connected to the host PC and not a hub, ditto a USB mini-harddrive. |
